Hi everyone Many thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my question about the proper term for North American Indians. There were so many that I can't reply individually...replies were split between Indians of North America from the older editions of SEARS and Native Americans from the latest edition. In Australia we have SCIS (Schools Cataloguing Information Service) which is pretty much used universally here by schools, and although they still use 'North American Indians', I have decided to use 'Native Americans' because this is what I have taught the children to refer to them as, and that is the search term they are most likely to use. (All this is down to our email exchange project with Jo Dervan's kids at Strathmore Elementary in New Jersey.) I have also let SCIS know that they need to consider changing the term in their next edition! Again, many thanks for helping a DownUnder colleague Cheers Barbara Barbara Braxton Teacher Librarian Palmerston District Primary School PALMERSTON ACT 2913 AUSTRALIA T. 02 6205 6162 F. 02 6205 7242 E. barbara@dynamite.com.au W. http://www.palmdps.act.edu.au "Together, we learn from each other." =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
