Thanks to them many immediate responses I received! I was asked to post a
hit, as others have the same question.

Open the file on the Mac that has Word installed.
Save As... and select AppleWorks as the file type (the drop-down menu in
the Save As... dialog box) ... save to a floppy disk.

Transfer via floppy disk to the computer with AppleWorks installed. Open.

Now, if you don't have access to any computer with Word, send the file to
me as an attachment, and I'll do the translation and send it back as an
AppleWorks file. (I will be gone from Tues-Sat for our state library
convention so you'd better be either fast or patient!!)

Try saving the Word file as an .rtf file, then transferring to AppleWorks.
Go to "file", "save as", then scroll to find .rtf.

Hope this helps.

Dj,
I believe if you save the original file as text or rich text format, you
will be able to open it in the other application.

I think the best way to do that would be save it as a text file.

hat I have found that I need to do is to save the AppleWorks file as RTF,
which is a text file. Remember to save it as 8.3 rule: Namelike.rtf

>From what I can tell you can't do it directly...you can save a Word file as
a text file and open it in Appleworks 6, but that was all I could do. I even
tried saving the Word file as Works and went back as far as Clarisworks 4
and it still wouldn't do it.

Have you tried saving it as text? Can you e-mail it to yourself?

        Good luck,
