I'm writing to correct misinformation in the Hit regarding AR. I'm speaking about version 5.12 and don't know whether this is true for earlier versions. AR reading comprehension quizzes are not all 10 questions. The length of the quiz depends upon the length of the book. I just had a student take one with more than 10. Also, there are enough questions that no two students see the exact same set of questions for a book. I do not find the questions too oriented to "picky" detail as was suggested by one of the responders in the Hit. I do find that quizzes for books that I think I know well, but haven't read in a few years are difficult for me. Yes, I'm a fan of AR, but I believe RC will probably produce similar gains in reading ability. I'm not trying to promote one product over the other, especially since I don't know RC well. (My district bought AR a few years back, so that's what we're using.) I just want to makes sure that information some of us are relying on to make decisions is correct.
