Julie of the Wolves

It's time for me to use all your minds out there.  I have a fifth grade
teacher who would like to use Julie of the Wolves with her class, but is
hesitant because of the rape scene.

Have any of you been challenged over this book for an elementary class.
If so, how did it resolve?
