Pat, My children's high school loans laptops. Not positive on the details, here's how I think it works. Laptops are available to "students only" after school (overnight and weekend checkout). Students and parents must sign an extensive agreement before the loan takes place. When turned in (to someone especially in charge of this 1st period -- not a librarian), the laptop is checked to see if still working AND all programs (and operating system) are reinstalled. Also recharges them. (Am fuzzy on this, but believe someone from the school told me this awhile back -- the clean installation insures no viruses, glitches, or saved copies.) Teachers may checkout and use the machines throughout the day -- returning them prior to the end of the day. Machine is loaded with word processing, spreadsheet, etc. that the school "officially" supports. School of 2,000+ students has 10-12 available for loan. I don't know of anyone who has used this loan system. We live in an area where the majority of students have home computers. Good luck on your information quest, April Johns, LMS Larkin High School Elgin, IL =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
