professional
development workshops will begin on January 14, 2001.

No commute time! Participate any time of day!
All workshops are TOTALLY ONLINE.
Designed to help teachers integrate technology with classroom
instruction

TEACHING INFORMATION LITERACY AND PROBLEM-BASED
LEARNING
3 graduate credits

Participants will review ways in which technology advances problem-based
learning and supports curriculum standards. Review best practices for
teaching search strategies to locate online resources at a variety of
ages. Explore what is needed to implement problem-based learning and
design a
WebQuest in your content/teaching area. Includes publishing your final
project on a Web page.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT FOR TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION

Designed for technology committee members, media specialists, technology
coordinators and administrators who are responsible for planning and
delivering staff development.

Participants will explore how to effectively incorporate online learning
with lab-based staff development. Includes assessing faculty technology
integration competencies, using self-evaluation rubrics, and analyzing
the
needs of technophobes. Activities explore: selecting online resources
for technology training, reviewing examples of mentoring activities,
discussing best practices for faculty support, selecting instructional
design strategies for a Web-based workshop, and designing customized Web
pages for faculty workshops. You will have hands-on experience using
listservs, discussion boards and an introduction to Web-based
facilitation strategies.

Register via the secure online registration form; no payment is due
until the first week of class. (U-bills will be mailed in mid-
February.)Registration is limited to 20 participants per section.

The demand for online education is growing as teachers and
administrators discover the flexibility and convenience of Web-based
courses when renewing a teaching license and pursuing career advancement
goals.

Teachers from 37 countries and 36 states in the US have participated in
UNI online professional development workshops. Online learning offers
opportunities for one-to-one interaction with facilitators and frequent
group discussions with peers in such locations as Des Moines, Bangkok,
Quito, Warsaw, and Nairobi. Teachers participate in UNI online workshops
from home or school computers.

Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of email and Web browsing
