LM_NET: Library Media Networking
<html><DIV>I used to work in a school where the previous policy had been to have
everything turned in before vacations. That never made sense to me. It
seems we need to try everything to get books in kids' hands today, and vacations
are a perfect time to do it. I don't think we ever lost any more over
vacations than any other time. Sometimes I think we get too possessive of
"our" books. Actually they belong to the taxpayers and their children.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> I changed my overdue policy last year for the same reason. I used
to not let anyone check out if they had anything overdue. Lots of kids would
forget that it was library day, so had to go home with no new book. I decided
that wasn't a good situation. I now let each child who has forgotten his
books due on their library day check out one book. This keeps him with something
new to read. The next week if he doesn't bring everything back, he goes into
the chronic category, and can't have anything new until all materials are returned.
This has worked pretty well. Have a happy holiday season. </DIV>
