My building network systems operator informed me that we have "storage space" to add "library holdings" of e-books. I have a purchase order in for a HP Jornada to use as the "reader". I am going to start small - one reader - and a handful of titles. I'll probably check out Gutenburg first, for public domain stuff. Since our district uses Follett, I think I will be purchasing some titles from them. I predict that several of our students have hand held devices on their Santa lists, and I will be ready for them when we return from winter break! The e-book concept is pretty nifty, and we need to examine all implications of the medium. With the expansion of Internet II getting closer to our schools, I see some of this happening soon than we would like to think. I can't imagine print EVER vanishing, but perhaps only the privileged will have access to it (like I'm talking in blade runner land). The media makes no difference, the human element still provides access and users of infomation will always need that. "As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!"
