Hi all,
Got many suggestions for books to buy for my new baby. I am hoping that
my friends and relatives are keyed into the fact that I am a librarian
and want books for my little one! Thanks so much for the suggestions,
as well as the wonderful wishes for our new baby -- we have until
February to wait for the arrival.

Here are your wonderful suggestions below.

Thanks again,
Liz K.

For your baby, Goodnight Moon; Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?;
Mother Goose; Chicka Chicka ABC; Tana Hoban concept books; any books
where you sing poems and/or favorite songs (e.g., The Wheels on the Bus,
etc.)just to name a few. And as you know, it's never too early to start
reading to
your baby.  I began reading/singing to my children from the very start;
they
both (ages 5 and 2)love books. My 2-year-old sleeps witha big pile of
them
every night (instead of, say, a stuffed animal--his choice).
Congratulations!

For a child's collection I could wax on for pages, but will limit myself
to
the following: Purchase/Request for Shower Gifts good hard back copies
of:

Beatrix Potter Collection
The Wind in the Willows
Just-So Stories
The Entire Narnia Collection
The Hobbit
Child's Garden of Verses
Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone (will be a classic one day!!)
The Wizard of OZ
Dr. Seuss Books

I'd better quit while I'm ahead here...this is by no means a complete
list
<g> Good Luck!! -Janell Brown

I Love You Forever--Robert Munch (I asked for this book, whose title I
couldn't remember, at the public library by saying "I want the book
about a
mother who sings 'I love you forever' to her baby up until he's an
adult."
By the time I finished that sentence, I was in complete tears. This book
is
the biggest tearjerker ever, but I love it.)

Hey Al--Arthur Yorinks
Good Night Moon
Flicka, Ricka and Dicka
Snip, Snap and Snur (these 2 books are old fashioned and sexist and full
of
stereotypes, but they have wonderful drawings)

I found that some of the books my kids loved the most were dime store
trash
they got as presents or at yard sales. There is no accounting for
taste!!
Good luck. I think the greatest time of my life was when I was pregnant
with
my first child. Enjoy every minute of it. (the 2nd greatest time was
when I
was pregnant with my second!!) -- Sharon Hamer
