I have a pretty large collection and using the 920's (collective
biographies) is almost impossible whether in reference or stacks. In
looking at my 1990 (I think) Dewey one suggestion made in it is to put
biographies in the regular Dewey number and add 92. Does that apply to
collections? If so I think that means I would put American history biography
in 973.92. I think this would really help in reference, but I'm not sure if
I like the idea for the regular stacks. I am also confused as to where I
could put a book like Important People from the 1960's. Would that go in
973.9? Would I add the 92 suffix somewhere? Also what is the best route
for books on The Presidents? I have a lot of them and they are spread out
over 10 shelves in the 920s. I don't want to move all of them to reference,
but I would like them to be together on the shelves. Books on women,
blacks, Indians, all present similar problems. I want to get my 920 section
down to just a few shelves and get the rest of them into the collection
where they can be quickly found. What have others of you done to deal with
collective biographies?
