A teacher came to me and asked me to duplicate several audiotapes for a student in her class whose IEP indicates that she should have a recorded copy of the books the class is reading. Is making these copies acceptable? Does an IEP supercede copyright and fair use? I haven't been in this type of situation before and I'm not sure what my response should be to the teacher and to our building principal. My gut reaction is to say that the copy cannot be made, but I know that someone will have the answer--frequently more quickly than it could be looked up. I did conduct a general search of an online copyright manual from Groton Public Schools but could not find anything really appropriate to this situation. I am new to this school this year and have not found the Copyright resources I had in previous library positions. Thank you for your help. Kimberly A.
