Hello all, I've been posting a lot of questions in these last months about weeding, and the responses have really been so helpful! Thank You! My question today is regarding teachers: I recently weeded through my fiction. I've found that the students in my school (Esp 4 and 5 grades) don't want to check out books. I think in part it is bec of the old stuff I have (had) here. When I weeded, my 2 big criteria were circulation and condition. I made sure to keep a copy of Newbery/classics, but when I had 3 and 4 copies of the same book that wasn't circulating, I pitched some. One of the reading teachers came to me about the books (I offered them to the faculty in our faculty room) and was very concerned. I explained that I kept copies of Newbery/classics, but that my main goal was to make room for new fiction to get my kids reading. Was I wrong to pitch the stuff?
