Hi, All --
Just wanted to add my own book care lesson for this year (I'm to that point
where I'm entertaining myself as much as teaching the kids.) I read them Ron
& Judi Barrett's "animals should definitely not wear clothing." Then I made
my own electronic book (kid pix slide show) called "animals should
definitely not borrow library books." It includes (badly drawn by me)
illustrations of various animals with their books, to go with text such as:
"because it would always get wet with a whale" -- (then I say) don't ever
read in the bathtub or leave your book in the rain.
"because a snake could never turn the pages" -- turn carefully from the top,
no dog-ears.
"because a mouse could never manage" (to carry it home) -- put it in your
bookbag!
"because a squid would get ink on the pages" -- don't write in the book.
"because a squirrel would bury it for winter" -- you must bring it back on
time/remember where you put it!
etc...
then the last page
"and most of all because there wouldn't be as many books for kids!"
