Hi everyone,
I was recently invited to be the Co-ordinator for International School
Libraries Day, which is the third Monday in October - this year, the 16th.

So wearing that hat, I invite you to participate in this event, and share
the ideas that you might do to celebrate it. As a member of a number of
lists, I find that no matter where we are we all share the same challenge
to promote our specialist knowledge and services to our staff and students.
So some really innovative ideas would be cool, and of course I will post a
hit.

The theme for this year is "School Libraries : World Wide Wisdom"
http://www.hi.is/~anne/sldindex.html and there are some suggestions for
activities at http://www.hi.is/~anne/sldsuggested_activities.html including
a draft press release.

In Western Australia, WASLA (the Western Australian School Library
Association) is celebrating School Library Day on 16 October by presenting
Best Practice Awards for libraries or library staff, nominated by their
principals.

With the new school year starting in the northern hemisphere and planning
for the new term under way in the southern, it is a great time to think
about what we could do.

At Palmerston we are going to Read Around the World which will have even
more meaning because of the up-coming Olympics, as well as launching our
travel buddy program with a US school.

Look forward to a mailbox full of ideas, quotes, anything that we can share
to unite us.

Cheers
Barbara
