ELEM: Target Books on US Regions

Hello all,

I have been searching for a set of books about the different regions of the
United States.  Such as: Midwest, Southwest, Northeast etc,.  Our fourth
grade studies US regions followed by intense research of individual states
in fifth grade.

We have an abundance of state books, but nothing regarding regions and our
third graders are really struggling for information.  The encyclopedias
include very little on this subject.

Does anyone use a series that could be recommended?  Or.....is our school
unusual with this topic of study?  I would love to hear your comments or
suggestions.
