Thank you to all who have responded. I have gotten almost as many requests to share the info as I have gotten giving me info. Marisa Szamreta PTO Library Committee Chairperson Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary Parlin NJ Here are some more suggestions on the topic of printing bar codes... We print our own right from our library software. Can you not do this? We have Surpass. We print not only for books we buy and catalog ourselves but those to replace worn or lost bar codes from old books. We have it set to use Avery labels which we buy at office supply houses. I am using BarTender - to go with Follett - they recommend it and we bought it from them - it works great except that I have not figured out how to print a page of non sequential labels. I have not called support yet - I am sure it can be done - just haven't had a pressing need to do it. Was well worth the price as am printing bar codes for most of the district schools - only six schools all together - took me maybe 10 minutes to print 3000 labels yesterday. Printing your own bar codes depends on what circulation system you are using. I use to use Winnebago which allowed for simple bar code printing of both book & patron bar codes. I miss this feature now that I use Follet. I believe Follet has a separate program that works with their program, but don't know anything about it. I would be interested to see your hits. You must get a Brother P-Touch! I just ordered my second one. I'm at a new school this year, and am handicapped w/o one! The software on the newest model is so easy to use. I like it better than stand alone models because it is attached to the PC, so you type from a regular keyboard. It accommodates various widths of labels. (although the cartridges are costly) You can create bar codes for library cards and books (if you circ. software doesn't already have that feature.) Even if it does, you don't have to wait until you have and entire sheet of them in order to print on a regular printer. You can print as few as one! You can adjust the font, and print spine labels too. You can label your shelves, file folders, binders, everything! It's wonderful! If you prefer to print sheets of labels (bar code or otherwise) I found Bar code Anything at pczones.com. It was about $45.oo. It's a little tricky, but once you figure it out, it's fine. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
