Re: ZAPME Computers

We have a ZAPME computer lab at our school.  We had it last school year and
it is well-used by teachers.  We were just upgraded from one-way to two-way.
The lab has not been open to students yet this school year because of the
technicians re-imaging.  I will agree that communication with ZAPME is not
always as it should be.  We have had ZAPME call to see that all is well with
the lab, while the technician they sent is working on it.  When I remind them
of this, I get the impression that the right hand isn't talking to the left
hand.  Having said that though, it is our best option at this time.  We are
not scheduled to have Internet access in the classroom for another year (at
least).  The ZAPME lab seems to be the best way for us to provide a forum for
students to become familiar with the Internet.  The advertisements do not
play a big role in this, as all browsers are covered with ads.  We also
contract with Channel One.  The deal is much the same.  If we compromise and
allow them to advertise to this young market, they will provide equipment for
us to use.  I don't particularly like the ad deals, but if it is the only way
to get the equipment we need, I can compromise on that (to a degree).
