Peck, Richard._A long way from Chicago_.Dial, 1998 [0-8037-2290-7] Here we meet Joey, his sister, Mary Alice, and their grandmother. This book is told as a series of stories that happened over their many summers of visiting their colorful grandmother on the farm during the Depression years. I n this 148 page book, the reader gets a close feeling for these three and the interesting people who live in Grandmother's town. You can see why the author wrote _A year down yonder_ which covered only one summer. That Newbery book is a much tighter, closer knit story, but both of these books are an excellent addition to most collections. *************** Frederick Muller Halsted Middle School Library 59 Halsted Street Newton, NJ 07860 voice (973) 383-7440 ext 228 FAX (973) 383-7432 My book reviews are compiled at: http://www.halsted.org/br.htm My personal web site is: http://users.tellurian.net/fmuller =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
