Just after the thread started about keeping track of our mileage, my husband discovered and bought a little item called Sportbrain. This gizmo is a small disk that hooks to your waistband or belt loop and counts your steps. It has a little port that sends the number of steps you have taken to a website via your phone line. You can set goals for yourself, see graphs of your progress, compare yourself to others of your age and gender and in general, receive lots of encouragement to pick up your activity level. You can see how the activity levels of folks in various professions compare. Now I have one too! Other than the fact that it motivates me to take more trips to the office and park farther away, I have no interest in the company. Visit their website at www.sportbrain.com to read all about it. This thing was surely made for busy librarians.
