Dear Colleagues, This is the first year our elementary media specialists have been contractually tied to classroom teacher planning time. Because we are tied to teacher planning time, we may no longer close 2 weeks before the end of the school year to get books back and do inventory; we must see classes right up to the last day. Our inclination is to say that we just won't do inventory, which we understand is an important library management function. How else can you verify the integrity of your database if you don't check it periodically? How else can you provide good service to your patrons, if you don't know, for sure, what is in the collection? How else can you be a good steward of the valuable, tax-payer owned resource? While we understand that, school administrators don't seem to understand it. My question to all of you is how do we explain this so administrators understand? What arguments would you use to make your point? Thanks in advance to all of you. I truly appreciate your considered opinions on this issue.
