I have to agree with both of you. I love these students - every time they
walk into the library, I realize how lucky I am to be doing a job as
fulfilling as this. These students make it so easy for me to "leave my mood
at the door".

But, I have to say, it was very upsetting to me that I received nothing from
my colleagues. Not even a mention. And I'm guilty too - I knew that School
Librarian Day was approaching, but I didn't realize it was yesterday until I
had read an email from this group. I just don't understand how it is that
School Nurse, Principal, Secretary, etc. is ALWAYS recognized with flowers
and cards, but in many cases the school librarian isn't. I have even gone
completely out of my way to sponsor contests and events in honor of School
Library Media month, and rather than "I like what you're doing" I'm getting
much more of, "I think you should do it this way" or "My class never wins".
I'm so sorry for venting this to all of you, but my feelings were hurt, and
I knew I could vent to many of you who are in the same situation.

I do love what I do, and no, I certainly don't do it for the recognition (or
the pay either for that matter). But it just would have been nice for a
simple "thanks for all you do".

So from me to all of you - THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO FOR OUR CHILDREN!!!

Marni Sherman, School Librarian
Tackan Elementary School
99 Midwood Avenue
Nesconset, NY 11767
