I'm seeking advice from those of you who have been in
the field for a while. I got my MLS in 1983 (Rutgers)
and worked in both public and academic settings since
that time. In 2000 I completed the Graduate-level
teacher's certification program at Rider University.
I have been working as an intermediate (3-5) school
librarian in a wonderful district for the past year
(Delran, NJ!).
Although I love this job and intend to keep it, I
want to continue my education. The problem is I do
not know what direction would most benefit me
professionally.
For instance, Rutgers has a graduate certificate
program in Youth Literature and Technology. There are
also many interesting online and distance learning
programs offering Master's degrees in Teaching, etc.
Is a second master's degree a good idea or should I be
going for a doctorate? Is this something I should be
discussing with my principal? Being new to the school
environment, I am not even sure if that's what I
should be doing.
If there is anyone out there who has faced a
similar dilema, I would love to hear from you. Any
advice will be greatly appreciated! Please reply off
list to vkristian@yahoo.com Thank you, Vickie Kristian
