Gary questioned me on my assumption, so I went straight to the source. I
asked <grin>, after poking through the various press releases and
corporate info pages. This is the reply from the Google team:

"The 1.3 billion number [applies] to pages in our Google.com index of
webpages. It does not include posts to the newsgroup (which total
around 650 million) or files in our image index ( which number 250
million.)"

Thanks for asking,
The Google Team

I also took our own website's growth as a measure. We do much more
linking to multipage sections now, than we did in the recent past.
Earlier internal links were more to pages. I'm sure if you look at your
own sites, you will find similar growth. And all of that is reflected in
Google. =20
