Magazines need to be looked at for pleasure reading as well as research.
One caution: at my school 2/3 of the magazines were pulled because of the
ads in the back. Many of them could lead a student into a dangerous
situation (pen pal with a convict).

I agree with a previous posting about how magazine use had changed. I als=
o
have changed the number and types of magazines we subscribe to. We have
Newsbank for many of the titles students use for research. I do still get=

Time and Newsweek because I also think they need the news titles. Plus,
with the print copy we get all of the pictures and graphs plus students c=
an
browse them for project ideas. In my school, students don't browse the
"CAR" magazines very much and I have cut down to one title. I am wonderin=
g
if this is true at other schools.

I did get the magazine "Games" but dropped it since students didn't use i=
t.
I would like to get a good computer gaming title but haven't found one th=
at
comes reliably.

I have in the past bought some titles from the store then looked to see i=
f
students used them. Sports Illustrated for Girls and Girl magazine were t=
wo
that worked out this way.

I am thinking about getting Oprah. After looking at a couple of issues it=

seemed like it might be a good substitute for Seventeen. =

So, I guess I have three questions - are other secondary schools finding
car magazines not as popular, what is a good gaming magazine, is Oprah a
good title for my collection? =
