Someone on this list recommended a book "How to be Good" by Nick Hornby.
I'm one of those people who takes lists of books to my public library and
read lots of things other people recommend.  Many of them I recommend to
others.  This was a fun read, not fabulous, but definitely goofy and
Brittish.  Husband is nasty, sacastic, called "Angriest Man..."  Wife is
doctor.  Husband finds guru who cures chronic back pain and finds
spirituality.  Guru moves in, husband starts giving away things and taking
in homeless people.  Interesting questions arise.

Anyway, here is the quote I had to share.  Wife is trying to find a place
for herself in a very confusing life.  She figures out what's missing when
she is reading a biography about an artist:

"It is the act of reading itself that I miss, the opportunity to retreat
further and further from the world until I have found some space, some air
that isn't stale, that hasn't been breathed by my family a thousand times
already.  ... this book is so much bigger than that.  And when I've finished
it I will start another one, and that might be even bigger, and then
another, and I will be able to keep extending my house until it becomes a
mansion, full of rooms where they can't find me.  ... What happened to me?
How did I get it into my head that I was too busy for this stuff?"
