TARGET: Arrangement of story corner Date: Wed, 8 Aug. 2001 From: Pat Gualtieri <jogualt@attglobal.net> To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU This is my first request for assistance, though I have replied to others' messages and have gained immeasurably from reading "HITS." I am a new Library Media Specialist, setting up my first library media center. I would like to set up an inviting "story corner" and I am uncertain which to purchase - a comfortable rocking chair or a tall chair with attached foot rest I saw at a local store. Since the children will be sitting in 3 tiered rows, I'm wondering if they would be able to see the pictures easier if I was sitting slightly above them - i.e., in the tall chair OR would the rocking chair be more appealing and closer to their eye level.(Is this making sense?)Also, the tiered rows have institutional carpeting with minimal padding. Does anyone use carpet squares and do you think they make it more comfortable - or become a distraction? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
