HIT: New book- poetry focus

I just picked up Love That Dog by Sharon Creech.
Read it in 15 minutes.
LOVED IT.
It is a journal written by a young boy- 4th grade? who
is responding to his teacher's poetry lessons.
Sharon Creech includes the poems that the boy
specifically references to in the book.
The beautiful part of this book is the development of
the boy's writing/sharing.- how he develops his skills
of interpreting poetry.
It also has a wonderful reference to Walter Dean
Myers.
I will be using this book with my poetry unit early
this year.
