Some thoughts about implementing AR books in your school. I am aware that many schools have included AR books as part of their collection. I am the librarian at a K-12 school and we have AR books for K-6 grades. I have observed, when left to choose they are likely to choose a non AR book. However, our school uses AR as after school reading and for book reports. When these two programs begin it is very difficult to suggest to students that there are worth while books in the Juvenile Fiction section of the library. I realize there is some good reading material in the AR collection, but my concern is how schools seem to want to implement them and exclude other literature.
