LM_NET: Library Media Networking
I have just developed 2 new teaching materials. If anyone is interested, I
would be happy to share them.
1. A rubric for grading student "works cited" lists. The emphasis is on
gathering sources that are authoritative, accurate, comprehensive, current
and objective.
2. Several simple forms that are used to gather the information needed to
create a correct citation in MLA format for the most commonly used sources
(books, reference books, periodicals, online databases, internet websites)
I have just used these tools with 9th graders, and they have been very well
received by both kids and teachers. I plan to use the rubric to grade the
Works Cited Lists for all the 9th grade term papers. Next year I will add
the 10th grade term paper and the 11th grade term papers. My aim is not to
grade every paper that kids do. That would be overwhelming as you can
imagine. But I thought I would choose the big papers as "benchmarks",
because they have traditionally been our means of teaching the research
process.
