Hi! Has anyone -- librarian or teacher -- used Lovina's Song (by Marian Rudolph) and the accompanying workbooks and materials for a 4th grade unit on California, particularly regarding the Donner Party? What do you think of it? I read exerpts from Patty Reed's Doll last year and it was rather dry. The 4th graders see Patty Reed's Doll during their class trip to Sacramento in May and I was hoping to prepare them with a more engaging read-aloud and follow-up activities. Thank you in advance!
