TARGET: 6th grade ancient India novel

Hi all,

I need your help in finding a 6th grade historical fiction novel. Our
6th grade Language Arts teacher wants a novel set in ancient India, from
2500 BC to 467 AD to go with the 6th grade History unit. Within the
unit, the 6th grade will study the early civilizations of the Indus
Valley, the beginnings of Buddhism, and the arrivals of the Aryans into
India. Most of what I've been able to find are collections of myths or
epic poems. She's looking for a historical novel. Does anyone have any
suggestions for me?
