Hi Folks, Something new is on the horizon. I just had a report that turned out to be a kinder, gentler, and sneakier sort of redirecting. You may be familiar with the Ebert and Roeper movie reviews. Their real site is http://www.ebert-movies.com . Well there are two sites; ebertandroper.com and ebertandroeper.com , that redirect you to places you never intended to go. The first site is what we are used to seeing. It takes you to the entrance of a porn site. However, the second one is REALLY sneaky. If you type that name on the URL line, you will end up at what appears to be a page at eBay and a pop-up dialog box telling you that you won Virtual Reality Casino. The message tells you to click on OK to collect your +$200 bonus. If you do so, as you would expect, you go to the casino. If you click Cancel, surprisingly, your mouse is NOT trapped and you can cruise eBay, BUT you are still inside the ebertandroeper site. The eBay window is actually captured in a frame that is the full size of the screen. If you investigate the HTML code, you see that the eBay page actually comes via http://www.bestofonline.com which is little more than a collection of ads that are arranged as a sort of cyber mall that links you to a large number of legitimate sites. They are getting slick and this can be the beginning of a whole new trend that uses captured sites to redirect people to less offensive ad than porn, but with just as much distraction and disruption to the educational process. You can find out more about these particular sites by visiting the http://oii.org/html/ebert.html Don't forget to report any porn-napping, redirects, or similar sleaze to http://oii.org/html/porn-napping.shtml Take care, Art *************************************************************** Art Wolinsky awolinsky@oii.org OII Technology Director http://oii.org (609) 597-9481 ext 337 *************************************************************** I am perfectly capable of learning from my mistakes.
