Copyright Question-Video/Audio Taping

The winter concerts are in full swing in our district.  Last evening the =
music department had equipment to tape and produce a CD of the event.  =
An announcement was made to the audience that parents could send a CD in =
with their child for a copy of the concert.  Is this a violation of =
copyright?

They in the past has asked to have the concert videotaped which we did =
because I was told it was for the music teacher to critique the =
performance which is allowable.
