Original question: "Should the marc records from vendors be kept after
the data is added to our catalog?

SAVE:
- so you would not have to rebuild from scratch if the systems crashes
& there is no current backup tape
- save (in file box) & take from building over summer, vacations, fire
drills
-- backup with a zipdrive & take that instead of the
original disks

DON'T SAVE
- if the whole library collection were destroyed in a fire or storm
... probably couldn't repurchase exact titles anyway, os the
disks would be useless
- the data is "usually in constant change [subject headings, , prices,
copies, deletions, etc.] anyway
... [and] that makes those original disks less reflective of
your database & less valuable."
- would probably restore the database from a backup rather than the
vendor disks
- no need if the data was successfully entered & you make daily backups
- if doing regular backups the vendor disks aren't needed

MISCELLANEOUS
- are you [the librarian] a saver or a thrower
- save until the next full back up of the database, then toss
