DEPUTY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Young Adult Library Services Association and the American Association of = School Librarians Divisions of the American Library Association=20 The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) and the American = Association of School Librarians (AASL) divisions of the American Library = Association (ALA), seek a Deputy Executive Director to provide support for = the Executive Director, officers and members of two divisions of the = American Library Association and to assist in the management of the = day-to-day operations of the units. These divisional responsibilities are = divided 70/30 respectively. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:=20 Responsible for management of the governance and program operations of the = Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) including support of = members serving in elected positions, development of membership and = management of publications. Oversee the day-to-day operation of both = divisions in the absence of the Executive Director. Monitoring workflow = and organizing/conducting regular staff meetings. Responsible for the = direct supervision of two staff members. Maintain positive public = relations by providing advisory services to members and non-members. = Soliciting services/collaborative arrangements with other units within the = organization. EDUCATION: Required: MS in librarianship from an ALA accredited program = or master's degree with a specialty in school library media from an = educational unit accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation = of Teacher Education (NCATE).=20 BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:=20 Experience working with young adults in a school or public library. = Experience in association management or volunteer work with nonprofit = organizations is desirable. The successful candidate will have excellent = written and oral communication skills, excellent customer service skills, = strong organizational skills; enjoy working with people; pay close = attention to detail; be flexible and able to problem solve and demonstrate = good judgement; and have the capacity to manage staff and resources. The = successful candidate will also have experience in coordinating projects = from concept through delivery. This person must be able to work independent= ly as well as part of a team and handle multiple projects simultaneously. SALARY:=20 Salary range: $47,600-60,600; based on experience and qualifications. ALA = has an excellent benefit package, paid vacation and a retirement annuity.
