SHARE: Putting books in the book slot

Speaking of returning books in the "slot", I am going to try to do
something over Christmas break that I have been saying I wanted
to do for a couple of years now, and thought I'd share it with you
guys.  (The way things have been going for me, you guys will
probably get it done before I do, but one of these days I'll get
around to it.)

I want to make a mouth around my slot, decorate it with a
moustache, and when kids return books, I'll tell them to go "feed
Dewey".  I already have a booktruck named Dewey.  His job in the
library is to hold the books that have been checked in and are
ready to put on the shelf.  When the catalog says a book is in but
it's not on the shelf we know that we should go look on Dewey and
see if the book is there.  I have some pictures of Melvil Dewey that
I found on the internet pasted on the booktruck, along with a little
biographical information.  Sometimes when Dewey gets really
overloaded with books, I say we need to put Dewey on a diet.

I am hoping the "feed Dewey" concept will be more alluring than
just "drop them in the return slot" and keep kids from coming in to
the library and handing the books to me.
