If the library is a battlefield between the PTA and the principal then I will
add vote to everyone else's and say QUIT!

Either the PTA will force the principal out or he will force the PTA board to
resign and put in one he can control. Either way, you'll be scapegoat and
both sides will use you to further their cause. Talk about a can't win
situation.

If the PTA does force the principal out, you can always reapply and would
most likely be hired again. If the principal wins, you'll either have to do
exactly what he wants (and he sounds like a major control freak) or you'll
find yourself without a job.

Save the blemish on your resume and quit while you are ahead and haven't been
driven to a nervous breakdown.

I also recommend the brown paper bag form of weeding, but it's a slow process
if you have many books to dispose of. Plus, from the sounds of your
principal, he's counted all the books in the library and heaven help you if
any turn up missing.
