Dear Fellow Librarians... Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for books-like-Holes. My patron is a 6th grade boy who "hates to read" - so finding something he liked was a major breakthrough. Below please find a compilation of the many recommendations I received, roughly in order of the number of times that title appeared in my email! I haven't read them all (for example, Tangerine) and therefore do not offer this list as my personal recommendations. And, of course, I'm not sure what will "work" for this kid or any other! 1. Spinelli, J. Maniac Magee, Crash and Wringer 2. DeFelice, C. Weasel. 3. Holt. When Zachary Beaver Came to Town 4. Bunting, E. Someone is Hiding on Alcatraz Island. 5. Philbrick, R. Freak the Mighty. 6. Bloor. Tangerine. 7. Levine. Dave at Night. 8. Paulsen. Hatchet; My Life In Dog Years 9. Gutman. Kid Who Ran for President. 10. Peck. A Long Way From Chicago. 11. Fleischman. Whirligig 12. Smith, R. Sasquatch. 13. Avi. Nothing But the Truth. 14. Mikaelson. Countdown. 15. Amato. The Word Eater. 16. Gantos. Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key. 17. Bauer. On My Honor. 18. Hinton. The Outsiders. 19. Blackwood. The Shakespeare Stealer. 20. Konigsburg. Silent to the Bone. 21. Hill. Toughboy and Sister. 22. Fleischman. Seedfolks. 23. Hobbs. The Wanderer. ...and what did he read next? Maniac Magee! You are all sooooo good!
