HIT: Seuss successors

I have come to the conclusion that (despite my unfondness for things
Seuss) Dr. Seuss was one of a kind.  There are lots of great poets and
picture book writers but no one quite in his category.

Here were my first ideas:  Jon Sciexka, Daniel Pinkwater, Dav Pilkey

David Shannon
Tom Birdseye
Sue Denim
Harry Allard
Peggy Parish
Bill Peet
Marc Brown
Another two I just thought I'd add
        Jonathon London--the Froggy books
        Susan Meddaugh (I hope that's right)--Martha the talking
dog.

Dr. S. has hard shoes to fill.  Still not sure who I'll pull out of the
cat's hat for March 3.
