HIT: Black History Activities

Activities:
--They invited a local judge, who was African-American and a
graduate of our school to come in and speak. He was
outstanding.  The kids and the adults were moved by his
speech, which had a big motivational focus on the students.
--Another Af-Am woman from the area was invited to speak. Her
message was interesting; it was for the othe Af-Am students,
in terms of racism -to fook at how they treated white people
and how they needed to make at least half the effor in society
to improve relationships.
--Another activity was to have the food of the culture. This
went over very well.
--Our BSU sponsors a FAB contest---Facts about Blacks. The
advisor spends considerable time coming up with questions on a
theme. This year it's music. All 4th period classes in the
school are invited to try to get the answers. Questions are
handed out in the last week of Jan. and the classes that take
part work diligently to answer them all. Then during Feb each
day there's a question of the day and at the start of 4th
per., participating classes send runners to the office with
their answers.  The class that wins gets a pizza party.
