As a definite non-athlete, I find it amusing that I am now an expert on the
Tiger Woods rookie card from SIFK. As I replied to Doug Johnson last week,
the card is nowhere near worth $12,000. The facts are: we did sell our
card for slightly over $2000 on ebay. It was in mint condition, perfect in
every way, and still in the sheet. Other supposedly identical cards sold
for much less since they had printer errors etc. Sports card collectors
really do look at these things very critically. When I checked ebay last
week the sales were in $2-500 range. My student (whose family runs a
part-time sports card business) has noticed that the sales have been less
than we sold for. He sold three of the cards in November/December, and
ours was the top. His personal card went for somewhat less. Clearly the
individual who wishes to purchase cards for $100 is planning to profit from
them. If you do have the card, be sure to sell it through an expert. Your
card may worth $25, or $1000. It all depends on the condition, the current
buyers, whether Tiger Woods has had a good week etc. etc.

Since the sale of our card was in local daily newspapers, on a local radio
station, and on the Madison Wi. TV, the word is out about the card. Yes,
we were extremely lucky. Perhaps one of you will do well also. A staff
member sold her card, but only received a few hundred dollars because hers
had a printer error. Don't count your chickens before they are hatched, or
your golf balls before they are in the hole!
