P.D. Eastman was a friend and collaborator of Theodor Geisel. Geisel wrote using three pen names: Dr. Seuss, Theo Lesieg, and a couple books using Rosetta Stone. Philip Dey Eastman was born in 1909 in Amherst, Massachusetts where he studied at Amherst College and at the National Academy of Design, New York, worked for Warner Brothers and Disney Studios, Calif., and created the Gerald McBoing Boing series for United Productions (UPA). (This is where, I believe he became acquainted with Geisel as they both were involved with Gerald McBoing Boing -- winning an Academy Award if I remember correctly.) Anyway Eastman moved to New York City in the 1950s and later settled in Westport, Conn., wrote children's books, notably Are You My Mother? (1960), and collaborated with Theodor Geisel on The Cat in the Hat Dictionary (1964). Eastman died in 1986 or so. Sharron At 6:03 AM -0800 2/28/01, Angela Long wrote: >Dear Friends, >Is P.D.
