Last night, I posted some questions from a word search that I was having difficulty with. Thank-you to all those people who responded so quickly. One, Denise Both, went above and beyond by doing research online and was able to find nearly all the answers, something my research had failed to do! It deserves repeating, this group is awesome! I had some requests for the actual puzzles as well as the answers to the questions I posed. The following are some fun sites for Read Across America activities, including games & puzzles, that I found in my travels. Below those are the answers to my stumpers. http://www.eseuss.com/ http://falcon.jmu.edu/~ramseyil/seuss.htm http://www.afn.org/~afn15301/drseuss.html (This is the one with the word searches I had some trouble with. There are 3 levels of difficulty.) http://www.nea.org/readacross/funandgames/index.html (Someone just sent me this one; I think this might be the same puzzles as above, only with the answers. I can't check as my browser isn't working.) http://www.randomhouse.com/seussville/ http://www.nea.org/readacross/ http://www.netexecutive.net/ (has Dr. Seuss wallpaper/screensaver) Answers to my questions. 1. Big z little z, what begins with z? I do, I'm a ZIZZER-ZAZZER-ZUZ. 2. A THNEED is a thing that everybody needs. 3. The ONCE-LER cut down the TRUFFULA trees. 4. The first Dr. Seuss book for adults was the "The SEVEN LADY GODIVAS." 5. The Seuss Navy was a promotion for STANDARD OIL (2 words together). 6. Seuss wrote for and did the cover art for JUDGE magazine. 7. "From there to here, from here to there FUNNY things are everywhere." Note of caution: The level 3 puzzle I mentioned above is rather difficult without a word bank. Even with the answers, all of which I hope are right, I still can't find some of the words in the puzzle. Maybe it's just me. I think I found a couple spelling mistakes on it, also. For ex., I think that the 4th letter from the bottom on the far right should be an "R" instead of a "T." Try them yourself before you hand them out. I may go to a puzzlemaker site & type them in myself & include a word bank. If you have any others you don't know, email me. -- Lois Tabis, Librarian Sharpsville HS, Sharpsville, PA ltabis@sharpsville.k12.pa.us =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
