Happy New Year Colleagues!! A fifth grade teacher needs to find out the meaning of 2 words that are on a 17th century list of supplies: greates - one bushel (listed under victuals) gimmows - needed for chest making I have searched online, archaic dictionaries, colonial reference works, and the archives to no avail. I think that "greates" is a misspelling of "groats" but the teacher isn't so sure. They may be in the OED but I don't have access to one. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
