Library Connections

Job Description
Program Director

Purpose

The Program Director reports to the Patrons Program Director and to the =
Archdiocese Curriculum Superintendent and provides leadership and =
coordination for Library Connections project development.=20


Library Connections Description
Library Connections is a dynamic four year program designed to revitalize =
inner-city elementary school libraries in the New York Archdiocese.  The =
purpose of Library Connections is to:
develop exemplary Catholic school library programs and collections
integrate library programs with curriculum, classroom activities, and =
children's learning
support active planning and collaboration among library, computer, and =
classroom teachers and administrative leaders in each participating school
increase use of library programs and collections by students and teachers


Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and communicate policies and procedures related to all =
aspects of Library Connections.
Recruit, supervise, support and evaluate the team of part-time professional=
 librarian mentors and other personnel responsible for project implementati=
on at individual schools
Assist schools in recruiting library teachers
Plan and implement, with librarian mentors and school leadership teams, a =
four-year sequence of professional development activities, including =
opportunities for formal under- and post-graduate training at accredited =
institutions.  These activities will be designed to provide principals, =
library, computer and classroom teachers with the vision and capacity to =
implement and sustain the program.
Plan and implement, with librarian mentors and school leadership teams, a =
curriculum-integrated information literacy instructional program for =
project libraries
Develop and implement a formal program evaluation process, including =
semi-annual reports that assess progress of individual schools in meeting =
goals and objectives
Participate in fundraising for and management of Library Connections =
budget and expenditures
Participate in negotiations with Library Connections vendors of print, =
audiovisual, and online information resources
Design guidelines for library facilities design and renovation, library =
automation and resource management (selection, acquisition, cataloging, =
etc.) for all project schools
Plan and facilitate resource sharing activities among project schools, =
including an online union catalog of library holdings and interlibrary =
loan policies and procedures
Develop and implement formal liaison with local, regional and national =
agencies, professional organizations and individuals whose mission =
involves libraries and/or elementary and secondary education
Work in conjunction with the project's Advisory Committee
Promote Library Connections program activities through articles, presentati=
ons, online web site, etc
Other duties, as needed

Education and Experience Required
Education:      Minimum of M.L.S. degree=20

Experience:     Several years experience working as a professional =
librarian.  School Library experience preferable.=20

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to solve problems
Organization skills
Flexible working style
Ability to work on multiple tasks
