Dear LM_NET Colleagues, Good news! The Next "LM_NET Unlurking Day" is 7-12-2001. And it is a special Unlurking Day, limited to those of us in the Southern Hemisphere! See below for instructions. This is the first time that we have had a "hemispheric" focus for unlurking day. I am calling for this approach so that those of us in the north will be able to learn about our colleagues who are currently in session. Our usual unlurking days are when the north is in session. It is easy to forget that LM_NET is an INTERNATIONAL group, and has been so for our entire existence! For you "newbies" who may be unfamiliar with the term, to "lurk" is to be a read-only member of a discussion group. It is not a negative term, but a rather fun and playful description of those who are content to remain on the sidelines, and simply read the messages that are posted. That seems to include most of us! :-) Unlurking Day is held especially for those who have _never_ (well, maybe almost never) posted a message to LM_NET. It is a chance for lurkers to dive into the great watering hole, and share your cup with the rest of us. On LM_NET Unlurking Day, all LM_NET lurkers are encouraged to introduce themselves, and share a few sentences about themselves, thier school, community or personal interests. Here is a reminder of how to post to LM_NET. Simply send a message to this address, same as you would with any other e-mail message to someone: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU In your Subject line, please include the word "UNLURKING". For those of you who are worried about excessive messages showing up in your mailbox, we suggest setting your mail to "digest" or "nomail" for the day. - Simply send the following message to: listserv@listserv.syr.edu With the command words in the message: set lm_net digest or: set lm_net nomail Peter Milbury, Co-Moderator of LM_NET pmilbury@ericir.syr.edu School Librarian - CA TeleMentor Chico HS, Chico, CA Now With 13,000+ Members See: http://ericir.syr.edu/lm_net/ ...............................................................
