Snowflake (Arizona) High School currently has an immediate opening for a
full-time high school media specialist.(Our current librarian had to retire
due to health issues)

Candidates must have - or be eligible for - Arizona Secondary Certification
with a school library media center endorsement. If needed, emergency
certification is available for one academic year from the district and the
Arizona Department of Education.

Snowflake High School enrolls 800 students in grades 9-12 and serves the
towns of Snowflake and Taylor, as well as the surrounding area. Snowflake is
located 150 miles northeast of  the Phoenix, AZ metropolitan area at an
elevation of 5480 feet above sea level and is in the foothills of the White
Mountains of eastern Arizona. The area offers a  sunny, dry, mild, 4 season
climate, with many opportunity for outdoor recreational activities.
Continuing educational opportunities are available via regional classes from
Northern Arizona University, University of Phoenix, etc.

The Snowflake High School Library Media Center contains approximately12,000
print volumes, over 500 videos/CD, and numerous print journals.The library
media center also has 15 on-line terminals with access to various data
bases. The library utilizes Follett UNISON with two OPAC terminals. A 30
station computer lab is adjacent to the library.

The library media center is housed in fully climatized brand new building
which will be dedicated on July 21, 2001 during the annual Pioneer Day
celebration.

The position is open until filled.

I worked as the Library Media Specialist at the high school before moving
into my current position. SHS is one of  the oldest high schools in Arizona,
with a history beginning in 1888, located in an area rich in history and
tradition.
