Colleagues- Has anyone out there had experience with a challenge for Judith Guest's Ordinary People? The book was board approved for a summer reading list (in May). I bought 20 copies for the library. At last month's board meeting a parent challenged the book, and the school board made the principal pull all the remaining copies of the book from the library. Our school hasn't had a challenge in 20 years, I'm told, but I unearthed the "citizen's request for reconsideration of media center material" and will give it to the principal, urging him to recommend the board follow approved procedure regarding challenged materials. I read the book this weekend . . . it was good, but I could use some specifics on how to defend it, if anyone out there has had experience with it! Thanks in advance!
