GEN: From the classroom into the library

My 2 cents worth.  While I took all of the ed. classes and am certified as
a teacher I only taught k-5 Art for 3 years and do not consider that I have
had any real classroom experience.  Yes, I had the classes that taught me
how to teach. And I did have my own classes, but teaching art is a little
different than 'regular' classroom (more fun and more mess, in my humble
opinion).  What I feel that I missed, though, is a true understanding of
how the curriculum fits together. So in my dealings with classroom teachers
I try to remember they are the curriculum 'experts' and I offer to
assist/work as a team of even take charge (depending on their desire and
level of willingmess)in what ever project/tasks that I can.

It's too bad that some perceive former class room teachers as better
prepared/ more favored for library media positions but in SOME ways maybe
they are.  I'm sure those of us that have not had classroom experience
bring other strengths to the position and hopefully we are each able to
recognize our own individual weaknesses and do what is takes to strengthen
them.
