Netters:

I had a lot of good responses. Thank you! The majority of the responses
suggested Dirt Bike Magazine which can be located at
http://www.hi-torque.com.

Others were:
ATV Action
BMX Plus
BMX
Dirt Wheels
Dirtrider Magazine
Transworld BMX

There were also a couple of concerns that I wanted to share with you. These
messages were sent to me, too:

My students love BMX Snap which now has a new name Transworld BMX. However,
I consider the ad by specialized.com where the rider is looking in on the
young girl pulling up her shirt to be extremely inappropriate for my
elementary students. (You're told to hold up the picture to the light in
their ads) I now rip out all the specialized.com ads. The magazine content
is fine.
p.s. yes, I know this type of censorship has its critics, but it would be
very hard to justify this magazine is important enough to our curriculum to
have this type of material in it.

I am a library media specialist in a K-6 bldg. I subscribe to "Dirt Bike
" magazine, however I wanted to let you know
that I had a weird incident happen involving this magazine. First, before
ordering I previewed about six issues of the mag, and thought it was
great! Next, I ordered and processed the magazine as it came in, never
giving a thought to
any content problems. However, one day a fifth grade boy took out the
March(?) issue and then discovered a
quite graphic and inclusive advertisement for look alike toy assault
weapons. His mom brought in the offending issue, before looking at it, I
thought, "How bad could it be??" Much to my chagrin it was awful. The guns
were 8 dollars and he had wanted to mail away for them. Now, these were
not your typical Field and Stream type gun advertisements, they were very
explicit in their use as look alike killing weapons.
They were snub nose pistols, semi-automatics, etc... Very convincing ,in
other
words, exact replicas. I emailed the publisher and asked them to please
reconsider their decisions to use such advertisements. However, the kids
in my bldg. love that magazine, it flies off of the shelf. I have since
browsed through subsequent issues and there are no gun advertisements.
Hence, I've not had to make the decision about censorship or if I'm going
to continuing subscribing.

Thanks for all of your help!!!
